My Fitness Story

me doing birds of paradise!
Most of my childhood, I was not very health conscious. I was also not very athletic even though I attempted pretty much every sport in the book (really...just in high school I did at least one season of track, basketball, tennis, cheerleading, and dance). Growing up in a very athletic family, I always felt like I was the odd one out and a bit of a failure. This, plus being a little bit overweight during the first few years of high school led to a lot of self esteem and body issues. I was constantly trying to lose weight even if it meant doing some not so healthy things. I would go for a long time without eating and then, since I was starving, would just eat junk food. Then, I would feel so bad about myself and my body, which led to even unhealthier habits. It was a viscous cycle.

During my many attempts at finding a healthy lifestyle, I encountered some yoga videos. I would do them occasionally and I enjoyed the practice, but didn't really know how to get deeper into it. Finally, at the beginning of my senior year of high school, my family joined LA Fitness. They had group exercise classes, including yoga, which I started going to. The more I went, the  more I enjoyed yoga! I was so thrilled to find something that I truly loved to do. As I went to yoga and other group fitness classes, I found that I no longer felt that exercise was a chore - now it was something I looked forward to!

With my new found love of exercise and with some major changes to my diet (I had been vegetarian for 2 years, but now I cut out junk food and most dairy products), I started to see the results that I wanted. My body image changed due to the weight loss and the fact that I no longer felt as if I wasn't good at anything.

Once I went to college, I got even more into fitness. The first school I went to, University of San Diego, had an awesome fitness program with group fitness classes and state of the art gym equipment (needless to say, I got spoiled!). I went multiple times a day! I also started going to some yoga studio classes in the area. This is when I first decided that I wanted to be a yoga teacher. I never imagined that I would be able to teach yoga before I turned 20! I am pretty proud of what I've accomplished and so excited to see where life takes me next!

College

me in London!
I have gone to three colleges in the past 2 years. I started at University of San Diego, then spent a semester in London at Richmond University. Last semester, I transferred back to San Diego and now attend Point Loma Nazarene University where I am studying fashion merchandising and business. I would love to study nutrition and fitness but that will have to wait for graduate school!

Max

I met and fell in love with my amazing boyfriend, Max, my freshman year of college at USD. He is the most loving, funny, smart, and cute guy I know. We love to hike, play tennis, swim and enjoy good food together. I've even gotten him into yoga lately! I can totally be my weird, silly self around him and somehow he loves me anyway! He has been so supportive through my whole yoga training process... I am so lucky to have such an awesome guy in my life! <3
